  • Who we are: a group of local campaigners fighting against a project that would destroy one of the ecological treasures of Scotland’s East coast.
  • Our Mission - to raise an initial £10,000 to legally challenge the devastating impact of a proposed golf course development on the stunning coastline of ‘Coul Links’ - www.notcoul.com
  • Why we must fight the proposal - Coul Links is an 800-acre sand dune system designated as an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and SPA (Special Protection Area). The proposed golf course will rip up this rare and special habitat and once destroyed, it will be lost - forever
  • How will the funds be used? - already we’ve received great support but we need to employ lawyers, wildlife experts, film makers and media specialists to ensure we have the best chance of winning this fight. Our legal guidance is provided by a senior member of the Scottish Bar who knows Sutherland well.

We urgently appeal to all those who choose to support us, to donate as much as they can afford - and critically, direct businesses, NGO's, Foundations, friends and family to this website to help us make a stand against this proposed trade-off for over a square mile of pristine UK wilderness - for GOLF!

 More information:

Setting the 'high bar' for double standards: one of the principal US developers has donated vast sums of money to protect coastal sand dunes near his home in the US. - quote: "the reason we came forward was out of thankfulness to those who had been leading the project to ensure the land stayed preserved. Ox-Bow is a tranquil place and that piece of land is across the lagoon from us. If it were developed, the essence would change."

Scotland's national expert on dunes: lives within one mile of Coul Links and knows the ecology of the area intimately. He has surveyed the area for Scottish Natural Heritage and is adamant that any development in the dunes at Coul Links could leave future generations with a highly degraded coastline and dunes interior - developers please note: "the essence would change".

In anticipation, on behalf of NOT COUL - and the thousands of birds, insects and large populations of wildlife who depend on this precious place, thank you so much for your donation. NOT COUL is committed to ensuring that our generation cares for Coul Links in the interests of the next - and forever.
