The UK Government has given shale gas fracking company Cuadrilla the go ahead to frack Little Plumpton on the Fylde coast in Lancashire, despite Lancashire County Council refusing permission for this. Work is expected to start early this year, so we don't have long to act!

The planning permission by the Government is being challenged in the High Court, thanks to  donations of £8,000 towards the early legal costs raised through CrowdJustice.

The case is likely to be heard in the spring and we now need to raise a further £22,000 to cover our costs. Please donate £25 now or whatever you can afford to help us raise these funds!

Thank you so much to all who have supported us so far, we couldn’t have got to this stage without you.

We ask all who want to bring an end to fracking, to support our further crowdfunding campaign so that we can continue the fight to protect our environment and our children’s futures.

This case is important because it seeks to hold the Government to account for failing to protect its citizens from the health impacts and the untold damage fracking will cause to our environment and climate.

The case has wide implications and is challenging the Government’s contradictory approach to climate change. Also it is not only about protecting the people of Lancashire by seeking to ensure that a precautionary approach to fracking but would take us one step closer to providing greater protection and securing for everyone across the country, not only from fracking but from coal bed methane and underground coal gasification, that the concerns and risks of shale gas extraction are properly taken into account, rather than the Government simply assuming that all is safe and well.

After many years of meetings, statements and positive action by communities and concerned groups, a groundswell of opposition is building momentum with the aim of seeking a ban on fracking in England as there is in Scotland and Wales and many other European countries.. Indeed, the Green Party and the Liberal Democrats are opposed to fracking. The Labour Party has also come out and stated that they are opposed to fracking and would ban it if they win the next election. In addition there is evidence of the dangers of fracking in over 800 peer-reviewed reports and studies and many members of the medical profession are aware of its impact on health and are also opposed to fracking.

Anti-fracking campaigners have been working tirelessly to fight against this. Personally, it has cost me everything to be fighting climate change for democracy and our human rights. Our efforts have helped to raise awareness so far but it is now time to persuade the Courts that this Government’s approach to fracking is simply wrong.

Please support our case to challenge the Government’s approach to this decision.

Our legal challenge is going up to Court of Appeal

Since the judge’s unfavourable ruling of our case in April, our legal team have been working hard on reviewing the judge’s lengthy report and then applying to the Court of Appeal. We have now won the right to continue our challenge of the Government’s reckless decision to force dangerous fracking on Lancashire, which it justified based on ‘flawed science’ reported via the following link:-

https://drillordrop.com/2017/05/24/government-misled-public-and-parliament-over-shale-gas-carbon-emissions-new-research/

The Court of Appeal decided to hear our case, indicating that there are issues of ‘general public interest’. More information can be found in a recent news article by journalist Ruth Hayhurst of Drill or Drop? which is accessible via the following link:-

Our legal team are now preparing material for the new court appearance.  We’ll update when the date and venue have been advised to us.

Our dedicated legal team prepare for 15-17th March court hearing

Our Judicial Review will be heard in Manchester from the 15th till 17th March. Some of our expert litigation team are working pro bono (free for the public good) but the strength of our legal case in court will depend on the amount of case preparation work that our Solicitors/Lawyers can afford to do with the money we finally raise. Therefore, please help us to reach our stretch target within early March so that we can fund the best possible legal case/team in court.

Our tenacious legal team, most of whom are in the attached photograph, includes Marc Willers QC of Garden Court Chambers, Estelle Dehon of Cornerstone Chambers, Paul Stookes and Matthew McFeeley of Richard Buxton Environmental & Public Law Solicitors, Emily Shirley and The Environmental Law Foundation.
